As of April 1, passengers entering Canada will no longer have to show a negative PCR test for the COVID virus to get into the country, as the federal government has lifted the requirement.
Passengers will have to be fully vaccinated if they wish to not present a negative test results, however. Corollary to this, people in Canadian territory currently still also must be vaccinated even for domestic air and train travel.
There are also other caveats to the lifting of the requirement. For example, According to CTV News, "passengers may still be subjected to random PCR testing at the airport, and travellers will still have to use the ArriveCan app, according to a senior government source."
This measure has been called for for a long time now by travel agencies, and local governments of towns close to the US border, as they felt that the testing requirements were egregious and unnecessary.
The Canadian government also recently lifted its advisory against non-essential travel in February.
The Trudeau administration had contemplated a similar measure before, and ended up enacting a measure allowing an antigen test to be used instead of a PCR test for trips where the traveler would be less than 72 hours out of Canada.
However, this exemption was short-lived; the government rescinded it on Dec 212 2021, shortly after it was enacted.
