37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez was taken into custody on suspicion of capital murder after he was found covered in blood and holding a machete. He is accused of killing 50-year-old Chandra Nagamallaiah following an argument in front of the victim’s spouse and child. The dispute reportedly began after Cobos-Martinez was told not to use a broken washing machine at the motel. He is being held without bond in the Dallas County Jail.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said it has lodged a detainer for Cobos-Martinez’s federal arrest and removal. DHS confirmed he is a Cuban national with a criminal history that includes child sex abuse, grand theft of a motor vehicle, false imprisonment, and carjacking.

DHS officials said after the killing, Cobos-Martinez kicked Nagamallaiah’s severed head “around like a soccer ball.”

Cobos-Marinez has a past final order of removal to Cuba. He was most recently in ICE Dallas custody but was released on an Order of Supervision in January under the Biden administration after Cuba refused to accept him due to his criminal history.

“This vile monster beheaded this man in front of his wife and child and proceeded to kick the victims’ head on the ground. This gruesome, savage slaying of a victim at a motel by Yordanis Cobos-Martinez was completely preventable if this criminal illegal alien was not released into our country by the Biden Administration since Cuba would not take him back,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin in a public statement. “This is exactly why we are removing criminal illegal aliens to third countries. President Trump and Secretary Noem are no longer allowing barbaric criminals to indefinitely remain in America. If you come to our country illegally, you could end up in Eswatini, Uganda, South Sudan, or CECOT.”
