A subway station in Toronto was temporarily closed early Thursday morning after a lone beaver wandered into the complex, CP24 reports.

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) says that the beaver entered the Royal York subway station in the western end of the city. According to the TTC, the animal was in "distress."

The TTC notified relevant officials including the city, police, and animal control.

While most Torontonians do not typically interact with the nocturnal creature, beavers do indeed live in the city and have adapted relatively well to live alongside humans.

The beavers make their homes in Toronto's vast network of ravines. While the TTC is not aware of where the beaver at Royal York station came from, it may have come from the nearby Humber River.

High Park, which is a mere four kilometers away, is also known for its beaver population, and they can be spotted year round by residents.
