DC man beat girlfriend's infant to death—then blamed 6-year-old autistic son: prosecutors

A man in Washington, DC, has been charged with beating his girlfriend's 2-month-old baby to death in a fit of rage and then blamed the killing on his 6-year-old non-verbal autistic son, according to prosecutors.

Demetrius Beatty, 40, was charged on Tuesday for the killing of his girlfriend's 2-month-old daughter after he previously warned the mother that would happen if he was left alone with her children, per the New York Post. The killing took place on August 16 at his home on Beatty's home on New Jersey Avenue. Police found him with the infant unresponsive in his arms, police said.

Before police arrived, he had already tried to frame his 6-year-old autistic son for the crime, police said. Beatty tried to blame his son in the 911 call to authorities, saying, “I guess my autistic son got to the 2-month-year-old daughter and was fighting her and he damaged her pretty good. Her face is swollen, her nose is bleeding. I need help quick."

“I stepped out in the hallway for a second with the other kids and he was in there by himself. Him and her. And he attacked her," he added while speaking to the 911 operator in an attempt to allegedly hide the murder.

The step-father claimed to police he was watching baby Khamyah, her twin sister, as well as three other children when he heard a thumping in the apartment. He claimed that after rushing in, he found that the 6-year-old was clapping next to her body where the infant was "on the f*cking floor face down."

“I know my son, he gets into something,” Beatty added, according to police documents, and added that “he beat that girl a**.”

Khamyah Honesty's had multiple facial fractures and severe head trauma, which led to her death just hours later after the fact. However, the injuries were too severe to have been performed by a child, a forensic analyst said.

The mother was out running errands while he was watching the children. Prosecutors have alleged that Beatty killed the baby because he was jealous that the mother became pregnant with the twin girls in an affair. Beatty had previously told his girlfriend: “If you leave them b*tches here, them b*tches are going to be dead,” according to the mother of the child.

“Mighty funny that you made that comment and I come back from the grocery store and my daughter dead,” she said in an interview with police.

Although Khamyah was killed in this latest incident, she had been neglected before during her short time on earth. She had fallen 75 feet down an escalator after she slipped out of a car seat in an incident the mother attempted to brush off. Beatty also locked the twin babies in a closet because they were crying. The four other children had signs of neglect and injuries and have been removed from the home by social services. Beatty admitted that he was using fentanyl the day before the killing took place.
