A new poll has revealed that voting enthusiasm among Americans has surged in the past few months, with Democrats seeing the largest jump from March, when 55 percent of voters were more enthusiastic about voting in the 2024 election, to August, when 78 percent of voters responded as such.

The Gallup poll found that overall, 69 percent of Americans said they are more enthusiastic than usual about voting, up from 54 percent who said such in March. The poll was conducted after Joe Biden dropped out of the race and Kamala Harris took his place, and mostly before the Democratic National Convention which took place between August 19 and 22 in Chicago.

Among Republicans, 64 percent said they were more enthusiastic, up from 59 percent in March. The poll was conducted between August 1 and 20 of 1,015 American adults and has a margin of error of four percent.

The average enthusiasm across all Americans is the highest Gallup has ever recorded. The next-highest level, 67 percent, was seen in September 2020, October 2008, and August 2004. The Democrats’ enthusiasm is only one point short of the high recorded by Gallup in February 2008.

The poll has also found that 79 percent of Americans have given "quite a lot" of thought to the election, which surpasses the previous August high of 74 percent seen in 2008.

Overall, 79 percent of US adults have made up their minds on who they’re voting for come November. This includes 83 percent of registered voters, meaning around one in five US adults and one in six registered voters are still deciding.

Among political parties, 93 percent of Democrats said they have made up their mind already, with 86 percent of Republicans and 65 percent of independents responding as such.
