DeSantis warns Covid mandates could return without a 'red wave' in midterms

"The minute those elections are over, they will impose mandates if they feel the need to do that. They will impose restrictions," DeSantis said.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke at the "Expand American Energy" forum in the Doral on Friday, saying that the midterm elections are a very important crossroads in terms of personal freedom in the United States.

DeSantis said that he's concerned that left-leaning politicians, were they to be reelected, will renew COVID restrictions after the November elections. They would wait until then because they know how unpopular those restrictions are with the voting public.

"The minute those elections are over, they will impose mandates if they feel the need to do that. They will impose restrictions," DeSantis said, according to the Daily Wire. "And so that will happen if those types of people are allowed to be put in power."

Referencing Fauci's almost complete disappearance from public view, Desantis went on to say, "They’ve put Fauci in the witness protection program because he will say, you know, no, you should still wear a mask, and he’s never going to say be normal, go back to normal."

"So they know that, and they know that that’s not what people want."

"There's nothing wrong if on an individual basis you make a certain calculation. That’s fine. We encourage you to do that," stated the governor, contrasting making a choice to protect yourself with being forced to do, going on to say that "it’s wrong to mandate people and restrict people, and that will happen."

"I guarantee you, winter of 2022, any of those folks that are there, you are going to see that happen."

"The only way to make sure it doesn’t happen is to have nice, big, red wave. So, we'll see," the governor concluded, bringing his point home.
