Does Justin Trudeau care about the safety of all Canadians?

Our Prime Minister will not speak up for detained Canadians

If you’re Canadian and happen to be going overseas this holiday season, be very cautious. Just know that if you happen to get into some sort of incident, get arrested, and thrown in jail unfairly, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau does not care. He won’t even bother to ask about you.

He does not want to reach out to speak. I wonder if he is even capable of speaking about such matters.

Speaking to Mercedes Stephenson from the West Block, Trudeau responded, “No, I have not reached out to speak,” when asked about three Canadian citizens who have been detained for dubious reasons by the Chinese government.

Michael Kovrig, Michael Spavor, and one unnamed individual have been detained by Chinese authorities in what many are speculating as a retaliatory move for Canada’s arrest and detention of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou.

Spavor and Kovrig are reportedly being held because of allegations of “endangering national security.” The third Canadian’s details have not been released. Meanwhile, Wanzhou has made bail.

In the same interview, Trudeau went on to say, “We’ve demonstrated a certain level of success by escalating them [consular cases] through the proper processes, not going already into a place where we might have unintended consequences from a top level of engagement.”

This is not an ideological discussion. This is a matter of a Prime Minister choosing inaction over action. No matter what your political leaning, you should be outraged that the leader of our nation is so timid, so meek, so gutless, that he prefers to stay silent while “proper processes” play out. It’s a cowardly move. In fact, it is not a move at all.

Let me be clear: there is nothing proper about this situation at all. There’s nothing proper about sitting back and waiting while Canadian citizens are being detained for reasons that appear mostly, if not entirely political.

It’s funny. Justin Trudeau is notorious for his continuing capitulation to identity politics. You know: the stuff that continually divides us—the junk that dictates that certain ethnicities and orientations mean more than others.

This is about identity. This is about an identity that is more important than social justice based nonsense that Trudeau cares about.

This is about what it means to be a Canadian citizen. It means so very much to all of us.

It’s a downright shame that it means so little to our Prime Minister.
