The Department of Justice announced Wednesday the formation of a special Strike Force to review and investigate allegations raised by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard regarding the “alleged weaponization of the US intelligence community.”

The DOJ did not specify what allegations it would be investigating. However, the move follows claims by Gabbard that former President Barack Obama orchestrated a “years-long coup” against the American public by directing the creation of a fake intelligence report alleging Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

“The evidence that we have found and that we have released directly points to President Obama leading the manufacturing of this intelligence assessment,” Gabbard said in a White House briefing, referring to the intelligence report issued weeks before President Donald Trump’s 2017 inauguration.

When asked by a reporter whether she believed the evidence pointed to criminal wrongdoing by the former president, Gabbard responded, "We have referred and will continue to refer all of these documents to the Department of Justice and the FBI to investigate the criminal implications of this.”

"Even for President Obama?" a reporter asked.

“Correct,” Gabbard replied. "The evidence that we have found and that we have released directly point to President Obama leading the manufacturing of this intelligence assessment. There are multiple pieces of evidence and intelligence that confirm that fact."

Attorney General Pam Bondi, responding to the formation of the Strike Force, said the DOJ will take the matter seriously.

“The Department of Justice is proud to work with my friend Director Gabbard and we are grateful for her partnership in delivering accountability for the American people,” Bondi said. “We will investigate these troubling disclosures fully and leave no stone unturned to deliver justice.”

The Strike Force is expected to assess all publicized evidence and determine potential legal steps moving forward.
