Ontario Premier Doug Ford will stop holding the daily COVID-19 press conferences that he has been holding since the start of the pandemic, CP24 reports.

Since March, Ford has been taking questions from reporters every weekday, and occasionally on weekends. However, his office told CP24 that he will only make an appearance when he "has an update for Ontarians"

This news comes less than a month after the premier declined to give Ontarians more transparency on his pandemic decision-making by refusing to make public the confidential advice given to him by his health table. He told reporters that the people of Ontario can find out what he knows "at one o’clock every single day."

On November 16, Ford told reporters "I am the only elected official in the entire country that comes out here every single day, never missed a day unless it is a holiday, and takes questions and tough questions too," Adding "so I don’t shy away from it at all and I am going to continue coming out here everyday informing the people of Ontario."

The end of Ford’s daily pressers come as the legislature is adjourning until February 16. However, the premier’s office has not given a specific reason for ending the daily press conferences.
