El Paso port of entry shuts down as Trump takes office

The El Paso port of entry has temporarily closed up upon President Donald Trump taking office. Police stood guard as Trump was sworn into office on Monday, where he will enact a slew of executive orders to curb illegal immigration.

According to KFOX 14, police lined the entrance of the El Paso port of entry in Texas on Monday to close it down temporarily as Trump took the oath office.



This also comes alongside the CBP One application being shut down shortly after Trump took office. All asylum claim appointments that have been made on the app have been canceled as of Monday afternoon.

The law enforcement that blocked the way of those on the other side of the El Paso port of entry were armed with riot shields. An officer announced over a loudspeaker that if the migrants on the other side of the border tried to cross, they would be arrested, prosecuted, and see "possible application of force" from officers. The instruction was then also given in Spanish as the police stood at the port of entry.

Trump is expected to sign over 200 executive orders on Monday, with many addressing illegal immigration and others related to ending DEI, unleashing more US energy, as well as eliminating waste in the federal government.

"Today, I will sign a series of historic executive orders. With these actions, we will begin the complete restoration of America and the revolution of common sense," Trump said in his inauguration speech. He later added, "All illegal entry will immediately be halted, and we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came. We will reinstate my remain in Mexico policy."
