The move to the UK comes after DeGeneres and her partner decided to leave the United States following Trump’s decisive electoral college and popular vote victory.
Ellen DeGeneres and her partner, Portia de Rossi, have encountered an unwelcome surprise at their newly purchased farmhouse in the United Kingdom, as flooding has completely covered the 43-acre property. The unfortunate circumstances come as DeGeneres made the decision to permanently move out of the US following the election of President-elect Donald Trump.
According to The Daily Mail, the home, located approximately two hours from London, was swamped with water after Storm Bert caused the River Thames to overflow just days after the couple moved in. The storm saw winds of up to 80mph and the area was hit with rain for days.
A nearby resident told the outlet, “The flood waters are rising by the hour. This is the worst I have seen it in years.” Roads around the property have reportedly become impassable, leaving local residents trapped in their homes.
The move to the UK comes after DeGeneres and de Rossi decided to leave the United States following Trump’s decisive electoral college and popular vote victory. The couple had planned to permanently relocate to the Cotswold countryside, where their multi-million-pound estate includes a swimming pool and a helicopter pad.
Reports indicated that the couple wanted to “get the hell out” of the country immediately after the election and are even preparing to put their mansion in Montecito, California, up for sale. One source said the pair will likely “never” return to the US on a permanent basis.
DeGeneres had been a vocal supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris and donated to her presidential campaign. "There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come!! I can’t wait for @KamalaHarris to be our next president,” she posted on Instagram in August.
