Elon Musk voiced his opinion on Wednesday that the provinces of Quebec, Saskatchewan, and Alberta should separate from Canada. The billionaire SpaceX CEO made the comment on his social media platform, X.

The popular betting site Polymarket wrote in an X post: "JUST IN: Quebec's new premier declares his dream of Québécois independence 'will be realized one day.'"

Musk responded, writing, "Good. Quebec should separate."

He issued a follow-up post stating that other provinces should also split. "They would be better off," wrote Musk. "Alberta and Saskatchewan should separate too."

On October 5, the separatist Parti Québécois won the province's election and formed a minority government. In his victory speech, Paul St.-Pierre Plamondon stated his vision of an independent Quebec and "that dream will be realized one day," according to local reports.

He has pledged an independence referendum in his first term, but only after US President Donald Trump exits office. According to polls, around 30 percent of Quebecers support independence.

Alberta will vote on an independence referendum on October 19, 2026. The vote will consist of starting the legal process toward a binding vote on leaving Canada. Recent polling shows about 23 percent of Albertans want to secede, according to a CBC poll reported by Bloomberg.

Saskatchewan also has a current separatist running its government. However, no official discussions of secession have begun.

Quebec has a left-wing government, while Alberta and Saskatchewan are both conservative strongholds.
