In the 2024 election season, Musk was the largest donor, giving $291.5 million.
With midterm season fast approaching, Elon Musk has reportedly donated to GOP House and Senate campaigns. This comes after a spat between Musk and President Donald Trump earlier in 2025 over the One Big Beautiful Bill, with Musk going so far as to weigh forming a new political party called the "America Party."
Two sources with knowledge of the situation told Axios that Musk has recently made out large checks for Republicans to win their congressional races in the 2026 election, and indicated that he would be giving more throughout the election cycle.
While Musk’s donation amounts won't be publicly disclosed until campaign finance reports are released later in January, his support could boost Republicans in their attempt to block Democrats from regaining control in Congress.
In the 2024 election season, Musk was the largest donor, giving $291.5 million. The vast majority of this was spent on Trump’s reelection bid.
Musk and Trump reunited at the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk’s memorial in September and were seen shaking hands. After multiple days of going back and forth with Trump in the spring, Musk said, "I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far."
All House seats and dozens of Senate seats are up for election in the midterms, with some key lawmakers announcing their retirements. Republicans currently hold 220 seats in the House, while Democrats hold 213. A total of 218 seats are needed for a majority. In the Senate, Republicans hold the majority with 53 seats.
Among those not seeking reelection are Reps Troy Nehls, Nancy Pelosi, and Jerry Nadler, as well as Senators Dick Durbin and Thom Tillis.
