First Lady Melania Trump has opened up applications for volunteering at the White House to help with decorating for Christmas or performing at open houses.

"Christmas planning is underway at the White House, and President Donald J Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are excited to continue the cherished tradition of welcoming volunteers to help celebrate the holiday season at the People’s House," a press release from the First Lady’s Office stated.

"Americans from every US state and territory are invited to apply for the opportunity to assist with decorating at the White House or showcase their talents as a performer at the holiday open houses. Starting today, applications are open for those interested in volunteering for the 2025 Christmas Season.

The application period is open until September 5 at 5 pm, and those selected will be notified by October 13 at 5 pm. To be considered, volunteers to decorate the White House must be 18 years old and above. Decorating will take place between November 24 and November 30. Performers, including groups such as school bands and choirs, will be selected to perform at holiday open houses scheduled throughout December.

The Biden White House came under fire for its 2023 display, which was featured in a video showcasing Dorrance Dance. The video featured decorative cardboard cutouts, tap dancing, a man dressed as a flower, and was intended to be a "playful interpretation of The Nutcracker Suite." The dance group holds views that are "anti-white racist, anti-police."

Describing the theme for the 2023 "Holiday Season," First Lady Biden said, "The 2023 White House holiday theme is inspired by how children experience this festive season: completely present in the beauty and bounty around them, their senses alight, with hearts open to the magic, wonder, and joy of the holidays."

The final Christmas season of the first Trump administration came amid the pandemic and celebrated the theme "America the Beautiful." "From coast to coast, our country is blessed with boundless natural wonders. The timeless treasures represented in this year’s holiday showcase remind us of the true American spirit. Together, we celebrate this land we are all proud to call home," the White House said at the time. The first Trump administration saw other Christmas season celebrate America, with 2019's theme being "The Spirit of America," 2018's theme being "American Treasures," and 2017's theme being "Time-Honored Traditions," which was intended to "pay respect to 200 years of holiday traditions at the White House."
