It was the first day of school for a Florida girl yesterday, and she was participating in a class on Zoom at 8:00 a.m. when her mother was suddenly shot and killed, according to NBC News.

The incident occurred in Martin County in the town of Indiantown, near Port St. Lucie. Police quickly apprehended the suspect in the murder, who now is facing an array of other felony charges in addition to first-degree murder for the shooting.

The 10-year-old student child was attentively participating in the class when a commotion and swearing could be heard in the background. The student muted her mic, and then several seconds later, covered her ears in an effort to shut the noise out.

Right after that, apparently, a bullet struck the computer, causing the student to lose her connection.

Authorities learned from interviewing witnesses that an enraged Donald J. Williams, the murder suspect, came into the house and started arguing with the victim, Maribel Rosado-Morales, the girl's mother. The two had a history of dating previously.

Williams apparently didn't like something Rosado-Morales said, pulled out a gun and allegedly shot her multiple times. She later died of her wounds in hospital.

Williams then got on a bus, where he was obviously shaken up and acting suspiciously. The driver called 911 after Williams asked the driver if he could take the bus off-route. Police quickly arrived and detained Williams, who has since given a full confession.

Five other children, aged up to 17 years, were in the house at the time of the incident. No other injuries have been reported.

The incident is currently still under investigation by law enforcement.
