Former Canadian diplomat being tortured, while Chinese tech princess receives bail

While an ex-Canadian diplomat is technically tortured, China's tech princess receives bail.

If it wasn't obvious enough that China is attempting to strong arm Canada, the situation is now clear as daylight.

According to a recent Washington Post article published on the National Post, the ex-diplomat is being held in a cell with the lights on 24 hours a day, denied access to a lawyer and will be allowed only one consular visit a month.

According to the same source, "there is no indication that Kovrig has been beaten, although sleep deprivation through incessant lighting is classified as a form of torture."

Furthermore, Chinese authorities can keep Kovrig in secret locations for up to six months, all this without access to a lawyer, and with consistent and brutal interrogation.

Compare that treatment to that of Meng Wanzhou the CFO of Huawei, who was released on $7.4 million bail after a multiday court hearing, in which she had access to Bay Street lawyers and the media.

This situation is even more concerning when you think about the fact that two other Canadians including an Albertan woman teaching in China have been detained, all without comment or interjection from the Prime Minister.
