President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron got cozy during a stroll on the beach where Macron had nothing but praise for the American leader.
Macron said of Biden that he "definitely" brings America back into the "club." Macron praised Biden's leadership and said the new presidency has strengthened the bond of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
"What you demonstrate is that leadership is partnership," Macron told Biden during their one-on-one session at the G7 summit in the United Kingdom.
The leaders are said to have discussed a wide range of issues including NATO, climate change, and the COVID-19 public health crisis.
Biden emphasized the cooperation between the two world leaders by saying, "Things are going, I think well. Or as we say back in the States, we're on the same page." Conservatives are criticizing Biden, saying that being "part of the club" is not what they look for in a president, instead seeking stand-out leadership.
"We have to deal with this pandemic and the COVID-19," Macron said. "We have to face a lot of challenges, a lot of crises, climate change, and for all these issues, what we need is cooperation, and I think it's great to have a U.S. president part of the club and very willing to cooperate."
"We feel very, very strongly about the cohesion of NATO and I for one think that the European Union is an incredibly strong and vibrant entity that has a lot to do with the ability of pushing Europe to not only handle its economic issues but provide the backbone and the support for NATO," Biden said.
