"No public highways or transportation routes will be closed."
The Marines are planning to showcase their amphibious capabilities in a live demonstration at Camp Pendleton followed by a celebration. And despite Newsom's insistence that payroll for the troops is being held up by the shutdown, the troops are getting paid. The Pentagon has diverted funds from other necessary programs to ensure that military personnel are paid.
No roads will be closed as a result of the exercises. The Marines put out a statement responding to Newsom, saying, "All training events will occur on approved training ranges and comport with established safety protocols. No public highways or transportation routes will be closed. In advance of the training event and demonstration, we conducted a detailed risk assessment."
Accurate information didn't stop Newsom from claiming that the celebration is unwarranted in light of the government shutdown, which was initiated by Democrats' refusal to continue funding the government. "This would be an absurd show of force," Newsom said, "and totally uncalled for during a government shutdown when members of the military cannot even get a paycheck."
Newsom was responding to a post from podcast Meidas Touch, which claimed that "Trump may launch missiles from warships into California this Friday and Saturday as part of what is being described as a 'vanity parade' and shut down portions of the I-5 during the No Kings protests."
Then Newsom responded again, this time from his personal account, saying: "Donald Trump and JD Vance think that shutting down the I-5 to shoot out missiles from ships is how you respect the military," Newsom said. "PUT ASIDE YOUR VANITY PARADE AND PAY OUR TROOPS INSTEAD."
"Governor Newsom is deliberately spreading Fake News to Californians to fearmonger and score cheap political points," Vance's press secretary Taylor Van Kirk told The Post Millennial. "Vice President Vance is eager to be in California on Saturday celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Corps alongside United States Marines who, despite the Democrats’ shutdown, will continue to receive pay thanks to President Trump’s hard work."
Newsom was likely concerned that a celebration of the nation's armed forces would interfere with the Democrats' planned "No Kings" protests. These protests, backed by the non-profit Indivisible, which is funded by George Soros' Open Society Foundations, will see leftists take to the streets on Saturday to complain about the Trump administration.
The agitators don't like closed borders, immigration enforcement, meritocracy, law enforcement, biological reality, or nuclear families. Instead, they prefer socialist policies, abortion, medical sex changes for minors, and racial segregation in the name of progress. Ahead of Trump's election, Newsom put together a massive legal war chest for the sole purpose of suing the administration.
He has taken up battles against immigration enforcement as well as to ensure that his state can continue allowing men to play in women's sports for the sake of "inclusion." The state has also sued over Trump's use of the National Guard to protect immigration agents after they came under attack by California militant protesters.
It was Newsom's Department of Transportation spokesman Edward Barrera who instigated the comments about potential road closures, saying that his agency was prepared to do so. "If the federal government requests a closure of the freeway, drivers should expect delays on Interstate 5 and other state routes throughout Southern California before, during and after the event," he said.
