Accused Jeffrey Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell has been given the coronavirus vaccine while awaiting trial in her Brooklyn federal jail, New York Daily News reports.

Maxwell was given the vaccine in January when it was offered to the women being held in the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York's Sunset Park. A number of women reportedly declined the vaccine, while Maxwell allowed herself to be injected with it.

However, Maxwell has only received the first dose of the vaccine. The coronavirus vaccine requires two doses to be effective according to experts.

Maxwell is 59 and therefore does not fall into the age range of people who are considered "high risk." It is unclear whether she has a pre-existing condition which may worsen the effects of the virus, however, as prisons keep inmates' medical records confidential.

A staffer in Maxwell's jail unit had reportedly already tested positive for coronavirus.

Maxwell has been accused of enticing underaged girls into sex slavery for notorious pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, who was her employer and friend for decades. She has also been accused of sex trafficking and perjury.

Maxwell has denied all criminal allegations made against her.

The millionaire socialite disappeared after Epstein's arrest, with many speculating about where she was hiding from the authorities. While some suspected she had fled the country, Maxwell was eventually discovered in July of 2020 at a secluded New Hampshire estate.

Epstein died in what authorities said was a suicide in August of 2019. According to authorities, Epstein had killed himself by asphyxiation with his prison blankets. Many have speculated that Epstein, who had connections to many high-profile business leaders and politicians, was actually murdered. Such claims have been fueled by suspicious circumstances surrounding his suicide, but no evidence has surfaced proving that he was murdered.
