“When a figure as influential as a presidential candidate pulls a move like this, it's not uncommon for people to want to copy it, whether for fun or to make a statement. “
Google searches for a “garbage costume” have gone through the roof this Halloween in response to people seeing former President Donald Trump dressed like a garbage collector at his Wednesday night Green Bay Rally. Trump’s orange vest as well as the garbage truck he rode along in, was his response to President Joe Biden referring to the Republican presidential nominee’s voters and supporters as “garbage.”
According to an analysis by World of Card Games of Google Trends, searches for “garbage costume” jumped by 2,667 percent or 711 times the average number on Halloween. “Trash costume" and “Trump Halloween costume” were also highly popular selections. People were also looking for tips on how to replicate the garbage Trump look without spending a lot of money.
The analysis by World of Card Games also showed that “trash costume” searches increased by 591 percent in the US, 35 times more than that entry got in the previous week. “Trump costume” and “Trump Halloween costume” searches also reached levels of 333% and 457% higher than usual.
When Trump volunteered some time to work the french fryer at a McDonald’s restaurant in Pennsylvania, “McDonald’s costume” was also a hit on Google—making the former president something of a Halloween influencer.
A spokesperson for World of Card Games commented, “Many people are looking for last-minute costume ideas for today’s celebrations. For some, Trump's recent campaign stunt has sparked fresh inspiration.”
“When a figure as influential as a presidential candidate pulls a move like this, it's not uncommon for people to want to copy it, whether for fun or to make a statement. “
The outlet offered some advice for people looking to create this look at the “last minute,” recommending that they “start with a white button-up shirt and a red tie, then add a high-vis jacket and some work boots. Top it off with a Trump-inspired wig to complete the look. It’s an easy and recognizable outfit that brings together humor and politics, while being affordable and easy to recreate last minute.”
