The photo-op comes after President Biden’s recent remarks where he called Trump supporters "garbage."
On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump rode along with a sanitation crew in Wisconsin in reference to President Biden’s recent remarks where he called Trump supporters “garbage.”
"How do you like my garbage truck? This truck is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden,” Trump told reporters while sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle.
Trump’s appearance followed a video he released from Air Force One, where he addressed the camera wearing a safety vest, stating, “250 million people are not garbage.”
The photo-op by Trump is in direct response to remarks made by President Joe Biden during a Tuesday night Zoom call. During that call, Biden reacted to a comedian’s joke comparing Puerto Rico to garbage at a Trump event, stating, “The only garbage I see floating out there are his supporters. His demonization of people is unconscionable and it's unAmerican."
The comments were met with immediate backlash, with critics arguing it was deeply inappropriate for Biden to refer to all supporters of a former president as “garbage.” Some also compared it to Hillary Clinton's "basket of deplorables" blunder during her 2016 presidential bid. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was forced to try to remedy the situation, saying Biden “was not speaking about Trump supporters as a whole.”
