Ohio Dem Amy Acton claimed she was attacked—video shows she wasn't

After Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton said in a statement that she and others were attacked by an armed man on Sunday, video and details from prosecutors have revealed that the perpetrator who "lunged" at the Democrat never got close to her and never brandished a weapon. 

The incident took place on Sunday in Canfield, Ohio, near Acton's hometown at a campaign event. The man charged, Patrick Havas, 38, was hit with two counts of assault, one count of inducing panic, and another count of disorderly conduct, per WLWT5. He was released on a $5,000 bond on Tuesday.

"While attending the Canfield Fair, an armed individual lunged at Dr. Acton, injuring multiple people. Dr. Acton and Eric are grateful for the swift and decisive action of law enforcement and are praying for the recovery of those injured," the campaign said.

However, video showed that the suspect never even got close to Acton. Acton was speaking with a crowd while people said "woah" in reaction to something in front of the Democrat. Two people are then seen stumbling back in the tent. Havas is not even seen on the video, and although he was armed with two handguns and a taser, he did not brandish them or remove them from their holsters.

Prosecutor in the case, Lynn Maro, said that Havas appeared in the tent and was "wanting to ask questions." Police, after getting access to his phone, showed no threats or obsession with Acton. Maro also said that he had "no relationship" with the two people who were knocked over.
