"Dumb motherf*cker didn’t deserve to live."
Platner, who has now faced multiple controversies surrounding his campaign, including having a Nazi tattoo, said in a March 2017 post that he would "jerk off" when he would sit in portable toilet stalls. The comment was made in response to nostalgic military smells, according to Fox News.
"I still have to jerk off every time I sit in a portash*tter… that blue water smell conditioned me," Platner wrote at the time. The posts were made under the username "P-Hustle," a now-deleted Reddit account that Platner has admitted was his. Platner has been endorsed by a number of large Democrat figures, including Senator Elizabeth Warren as well as Bernie Sanders.
Public masturbation can be charged as indecent conduct under Maine statute 17-A §854, which refers to a criminal offense involving sexual acts or genital exposure in public, which may include certain public bathrooms.
In a March 2021 post, he also described the image of a penis that was drawn in a portable toilet overseas, and said it was "beautiful," "engorged and veiny," and moving "towards its penetrative glory."
In 2019, Platner also mocked a wounded US soldier when he responded to a viral video of the soldier getting shot at by the Taliban in Afghanistan.
“This video never gets old. Dumb motherf*cker didn’t deserve to live,” Platner wrote at the time. “At least his stupidity and fat a** wheezing are available for all future infantrymen to witness and hold in contempt. Poor marksmanship on the Taliban’s part is the only reason this mouthbreather made it home, he managed to make every possible sh*t decision possible when it comes to small unit combat."
Per Editorial Board's Magdi Jacobs, the video Platner had been responding to was helmet camera footage from Pfc. Ted Daniels, who had been injured in the incident and received a Purple Heart. In a 2013 interview with CBS News, Daniels said he had purposely moved out into the open to draw fire away from the seven men in his unit. "You know, tactically, it was not a sound thing to do. But I also remember Murphy's Laws of Combat. If it's stupid, but works, it isn't stupid," he said at the time. He said he had been hit by bullet fragments.
