Dr. Peter Berman, the head of the School of Population and Public Health at UBC, has just resigned after he was caught travelling during lockdown restrictions.

Dr. Berman, it appears, went with his family to Hawaii over the university's winter break, going against his own advice and the advice of other experts in his field.

According to Global News, other members of the faculty found out about the festive foray and drafted and signed a letter objecting to Berman's behavior.

"This decision to travel harms our school’s ability to contribute leadership in calling for our communities to sustain daily sacrifices to prevent the spread of COVID-19 for the public good," said the letter, in part.

Berman joins many prominent figures the world over in preaching one thing and doing another. Mayors of cities seem to be particularly guilty of this recently.

Berman publicly apologized for taking the unfortunate vacation, and said that he regretting doing so, and realizes that it's wrong. His resignation letter can be found here in full.

UBC, for its part, released a statement saying that they cannot be held responsible for what faculty members do on their non-working time.
