On Sunday, Hunter Biden dropped his lawsuit against Fox News, though he opted to do so without prejudice, meaning he could launch it again in the future. The first son sued the network last month under New York's "revenge porn" law over their portrayal of him in a fictionalized miniseries called "The Trial of Hunter Biden."

Biden claimed the series, which aired on Fox Nation, "intentionally manipulate[d] the facts" and tried to "dehumanize" him by repeatedly highlighting his addiction to crack. In his own memoir, however, he referred to himself as a "crack addict," a "crack daddy," and a "crackhead."

In a statement, a Fox News spokesperson called Biden's lawsuit an "entirely politically motivated lawsuit" and "devoid of merit," adding that, "The core complaint stems from a 2022 streaming program that Mr. Biden did not complain about until sending a letter in late April 2024. The program was removed within days of the letter, in an abundance of caution, but Hunter Biden is a public figure who has been the subject of multiple investigations and is now a convicted felon."

In an interview with the Daily Beast, Biden said his addiction wasn't "
an excuse for my bad behavior," but that it also shouldn't be "an excuse for them to dehumanize me—and in doing so dehumanize everybody from the addict that you pass on the street to the one that you live with. That is the principal motivating factor. Addict, addict, addict, addict, you know. Crack addict; he's a crack addict; smoking crack; addict."

"Whatever you say, the one thing that nobody ever accused my Dad of was getting rich off of being a United States Senator," he added, "and so what's the one thing that you need to do? You need to completely dehumanize me. And the easiest way to do that is to show me to be this degenerate crack addict."
