A sector of the northern border between the US and Canada which covers the border sections of New York, New Hampshire, and Vermont has seen more illegal immigrant apprehensions already in fiscal year (FY) 2023 than the last decade combined.

Swanton Sector Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia tweeted Wednesday, "Over 6,100 apprehensions from 76 different countries in just 11 months, surpassing the last 10 years combined."

He added, "Swanton Sector Agents are resolute and determined to hold the line across our 295 miles of border in northeastern New York, Vermont & New Hampshire."

In FY 2022, the sector saw over 1,000 Border Patrol apprehensions, and 365 in FY 2021.

It was revealed in August that Border Patrol agents in Washington state have seen a 575 percent increase in seizures of smuggling vehicles used in the transport of illegal immigrants.

According to Fox News, across the entire northern US border, there have been 7,633 encounters through the end of July in FY 2023, compared with 2,238 in all of FY 2022 and 916 in FY 2021.

Though the numbers pale in comparison to the massive amount of illegal immigrants coming across the southern border, typically around 200,000 encounters a month, the northern border which is 5,525 miles, has only 115 ports of entry, and earlier this year, Garcia called for volunteers to help patrol the area.

"Due to the increased numbers, stations are task saturated with processing large groups, which has contributed to gotaway events, pedestrian and vehicle incursions," he said in February.

Earlier this year, the Biden administration announced a new border deal with Canada which returned illegal immigrants who attempt to cross between ports of entry into either country.

Rep. Elise Stefanik, (R-NY), said, "Enough is enough. It is time for Joe Biden to secure our southern and northern border and the quickest way to do that is for Chuck Schumer to pass and Biden to sign into law House Republican's Secure the Border Act, which is the strongest border security bill in history and would put an end to the Biden border crisis.”
