Despite a record-high number of illegal immigrants pouring into the United States along the country's southern border, Federal Border Agents were seen opening the gates at a major migrant crossing point immediately after the Texas National Guard closed and locked the point of entry.

Bill Melugin for Fox News tweeted drone footage of the incident and wrote, "NEW: For the first time, we witnessed the TX National Guard close & lock a gate on private property at a major crossing area in Eagle Pass, denying entry to migrants who just crossed illegally & expected to be let in. Border Patrol then came w/ a key & let them in for processing."

There have been more than two million encounters with border crossers in the 2022 fiscal year so far, which is a 22 yeah record-setting high. 1,734,686 people were encountered crossing in 2021 and this year, month after month, hundreds of thousands of migrants pour into the United States illegally.

Meliugin clarified on Twitter, "Border Patrol opening gates etc to allow migrants in is not new. They have to process migrants on US soil per federal law. What’s new is TX is now closing the gate & denying entry at this major crossing location. Always open in months past, including this video I shot in May."

In response to the unprecedented migrant crisis, Texas Governor Greg Abbott launched "Operation Lone Star" which sent 10,000 Texas National Guard to secure the border in 2021.

The operation has also seen Abbott bus migrants to sanctuary cities like Washington, DC and New York City, although many migrants get off these buses before reaching the Big Apple for fear of the city's skyrocketing crime rates.

Abbott responded to the Border Patrol unlocking the barb-wire fences and letting the migrants in, writing "Unbelievable. While Texas secures the border, the federal government is enabling illegal immigration. Biden’s open border policies caused this crisis. The federal government must do its job & fix it."

In June, Biden's border crisis resulted in the deaths of 46 migrants who were found dead inside an 18-wheeler in San Antonio that was driven by a meth-addled trafficker.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott tweeted afterward, "These deaths are on Biden. They are a result of his deadly open border policies." Mules also smuggled copious amounts of Fentanyl and other drugs across the southern border, usually packed with migrants who are illegally crossing. As human smuggling and drug trafficking has flourished along the southern border, the Biden administration drastically slowed the prosecution of illegal immigrants by almost 80 percent in 2021.
