Brooklyn Nets star Kyle Irving refuses to get vaccinated as a form of protest against the ongoing mandates. According to the Daily Caller, Irving is not anti-vax but morally opposed to mandating it for workers. As a result, he has been banned from playing until he is vaccinated.

"Given the evolving nature of the situation and after thorough deliberation, we have decided Kyrie Irving will not play or practice with the team until he is eligible to be a full participant," Nets general manager Sean Marks wrote in a team statement issued Tuesday morning.

"Kyrie has made a personal choice, and we respect his individual right to choose. Currently, the choice restricts his ability to be a full-time member of the team, and we will not permit any member of our team to participate with part-time availability."

"Irving is not anti-vaccine and said his stance is that he is upset people are losing their jobs due to vaccine mandates," The Athletic reported. The Athletic also reported that Irving perceives the situation as a "grander fight than the one court."

As a consequence of his protest, Kyrie is set to lose a significant sum of money. Roughly $380,000 per game will be forfeited and north of $17 million if he misses every Brooklyn game.
