Jelly Roll CRIES on air after MAGA pushback for targeting Trump all week as guest host on Jimmy Kimmel

Musician Jelly Roll cried onstage while hosting Jimmy Kimmel this week as he talked about what he claims he "should have said" when he was asked political questions this year at the Grammys.

Earlier this year in February, the country singer had been asked by a reporter about what he thought about ICE operations taking place in Minneapolis. This came after there was the shooting of Renee Good as well as Alex Pretti. At the time, he said that people should not care about his political beliefs and that he would talk about his stance in the coming weeks.

“I got called on that stage. I got handed an award that I’ve been dreaming about since I was a child, and immediately after I was asked to make what I felt at the time was a political stance,” Jelly Roll said while filling in for Kimmel. “I fumbled my words.”

“I was afraid that anything I was going to say was going to be immediately taken as a political statement. And ironically, by trying so hard not to make a political statement, I became one," he added, saying that he has tried to not be associated with any political party, something that used to be practiced by many entertainers, including the late Dolly Parton. Parton famously said, "I learned a long time ago, keep your damn mouth shut if you want to stay in show business… I’m not in politics, I’m an entertainer," when she was pressed on Donald Trump a few years ago.

Jelly Roll, however, has opted to talk about his political beliefs, and did so lots of times this week while filling in for the late-night host.

Getting emotional, he added, “That night at the Grammys, I had an opportunity to speak up for people who were scared, hurting, and felt like nobody was speaking for them. I had a microphone, and I didn’t use it the right way. But my daddy always told me it is never too late to do the right thing.”

“So I’m going to try to do the right thing right now, because human dignity isn’t Republican nor Democrat. Compassion isn’t left wing and mercy isn’t right wing. Pain and healing knows no partisanship. Hurting hearts are more important than poll numbers. And there are no boundaries or borders for broken families," he said, wiping away tears.

Throughout the week, Jelly Roll has faced backlash after saying that Trump's trade war with Canada was "ridiculous" and that Trump himself is "full of sh*t" as well as "fat pig."

Although he made the comments about the president, he has insisted that he is "down the middle."

“Sure, I lean left on some things, but like most folks, I’m pretty down the middle. I am a Christian. I am a country music singer. I’m a farmer. I’m a bow hunter,” he said in his Thursday night appearance.
