White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was discovered to have used a homophobic slur in reference to Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) in an August 2020 tweet.
"Only in 2020 does #LadyG get to push a bunch of debunked conspiracy theories while questioning @SallyQYates (aka an American hero),” Psaki tweeted in August 2020.
The "LadyG" remark is in reference to social media rumors that Sen. Graham was gay. The spiteful comment came as former acting attorney general Sally Yates was due to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which Graham is chair of, The New York Post reports.
The hashtags #LadyG and #LadyGraham trended on Twitter last year after a gay porn star claimed "Lady G" was Graham's nickname among male sex workers, according to The Post.
"Very disappointed someone in her position would embrace this style politics," spokesman for Graham, Kevin Bishop, told the Daily Caller.
"It says more about her than it does about Senator Graham," he continued.
Former Trump cabinet member, and first openly gay cabinet member Richard Grenell said Psaki's comment "should be widely condemned."
Graham's political critics have long alleged that Graham is gay, since he never married. Allegations that Graham has since denied.
The Biden administration has repeatedly claimed it will stand up for LGBTQ rights, reversing the Trump administration transgender military ban and promoting transgender rights in a number of initial executive orders.
