Following accusation that he leaked information on Israeli operations in Syria while serving as Secretary of State in the Obama administration, US Special Climate Envoy John Kerry on Monday issued a statement denying the allegations.

In a Twitter post, Kerry said "I can tell you that this story and these allegations are unequivocally false. This never happened - either when I was Secretary of State or since."

News broke on Sunday that Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif alleged in audio that Kerry told him about Israel attacking approximately  200 Iranian targets in Syria.

According to the New York Times, the Iranian official said he was surprised  by the alleged admission. "Former Secretary of State John Kerry informed him that Israel had attacked Iranian interests in Syria at least 200 times, to his astonishment, Mr. Zarif said."

In response to the allegations, many called for Kerry’s resignation from the Biden administration. Former US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley tweeted "This is disgusting on many levels. Biden and Kerry have to answer for why Kerry would be tipping off Iran, the number one sponsor of terror, while stabbing one of our greatest partners, Israel, in the back."

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) told Fox News, "This is something that deserves a Senate investigation. If it indeed is proven to be accurate, then John Kerry should seriously consider resignation."

White House press secretary Jen Psaki refused to comment on the leaked audio during her Monday press briefing.
