Jordan Peterson makes prediction in wake of Trump guilty verdict: Trump will outlast The New York Times

Following Donald Trump's conviction on Thursday, Jordan Peterson offered his prediction regarding what would happen as a result of the historic ruling. He claimed that the guilty verdict would only cause the former president to grow in popularity among his supporters, and that he would "outlast" the New York Times, which said the decision gave Joe Biden a new way to frame the presidential race.

The Canadian psychologist also warned that the first time an American president was tried and convicted of a crime could also mark the last time those living in the nation ever trust the justice system. 

"My suspicion is that Donald Trump will outlast the New York Times," Peterson wrote on X, quoting an article from the outlet.

In that story, the Times' Reid Epstein and Nicholas Nehamas suggested that Trump's conviction "has given Mr. Biden's campaign a fresh way to frame the race: a stark choice between someone who is a convicted felon and someone who is not."

"No one is above the law," the Biden campaign wrote in a statement on Thursday. "Donald Trump has always mistakenly believed he would never face consequences for breaking the law for his own personal gain. But today's verdict does not change the fact that the American people face a simple reality. There is still only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: at the ballot box."

"As a political ploy I can't imagine a worse disaster than this trial," Peterson wrote in another post. "If Democrats and the ideas that drive them stumbled into this the same applies."

"My bet is Trump's popularity soars," he continued, "and two thirds of Americans will conclude that the justice system cannot be trusted. Once trust is gone, poverty beckons."

Trump was found guilty on all 34 felony falsified business records counts, and is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11. He has vowed to appeal the conviction.
