Dr. Jordan Peterson made comments on swimmer Lia Thomas, a biological male who identifies as female, following the controversial athlete's victory over women at the 500-yard freestyle in the NCAA women's championships.

Thomas became became the first biological male athlete to win a women's NCAA Division One championship in any sport, something the swimmer said "means to world" to Thomas. Thomas moved from a ranking of #554 in the 200 yard freestyle in men's swimming to #1 in women's.

Peterson commented that Thomas was a narcissist "masquerading as an oppressed hero."

"This is a narcissist, masquerading as an oppressed hero, depriving deserving women of the victories they have justly earned, cheered on by ideologically-possessed and resentful fools eager in turn to sacrifice deserving others to their false moral pretensions," he wrote.

Teammates of Thomas have spoken up on the issue, only under conditions of anonymity due to fears that speaking out would result in backlash.

Speaking to News Nation, the anonymous swimmer said that she decided to remain anonymous because "there's about 2 percent of the population in this country who attack people no matter what they say. They don't actually have an argument and they don't present any facts or logic. They just want to attack other people and like to bring people down. I just don't really want to subject myself to that."

"The other teammates who see this the same way that you do, how do they feel about speaking out about this? Are they scared?" She was asked.
"I think a lot of my teammates are really scared," she said.

Thomas has emphasized Thomas' intention to continue competing in women's sports, despite being a biological male, claiming to covet a place on the US Women's Olympic Swim Team.
