A judge has issued an arrest warrant for a man who attacked two Muslim women in a Edmonton parking lot last year. The suspect failed to appear in court Wednesday.

Richard Bradley Stevens allegedly attacked two Somali women wearing hijabs, a mother and daughter. He faces two counts of assault and one of mischief, reported Global News.

Stevens will be kept in custody after his arrest as the warrant is unendorsed.

The women told police he approached their car at the Southgate Mall parking lot in December and began yelling at them.

Stevens allegedly shattered the car window, and assaulted the mother upon pushing her to the ground.

The second woman tried to help but was also shoved to the ground.

Before witnesses intervened and stopped the assault, the women said Stevens swore at them and told them to go back to their country.
