JUST IN: Jury selection in Alvin Bragg's business documents case begins March 25

The judge in the falsifying business records case brought forth by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced in a hearing on Thursday morning that jury selection will begin on March 25.

Todd Blanche, representing Trump, objected, calling it a "great injustice," but Judge Juan Merchan denied the defense’s motions to dismiss, according to the New York Times.

Blanche argued that he wanted to discuss the trial start date months ago. He also argued that Trump’s legal team has spent much of its time preparing for the DC federal trial, and thus hadn’t had time to begin preparing for the New York trial.

Merchan said, "There's simply no point, there was no point, to me being early to discuss scheduling when nobody knew what was happening."

Blanche argued that he asked last fall for a discussion on the trial date because of the additional indictments. Merchan said there was no reason to discuss the trial date until the federal calendar had been clarified, according to CNN.

Merchan said that he spoke with DC Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is overseeing the January 6 and 2020 federal election case, earlier this month. That federal case is now on hold as an appeals process is carried out. It was set to begin on March 4.

Speaking outside the courtroom on Thursday morning, Trump said, "this is not a crime."

"This is just a way of hurting me in the election because I’m leading by a lot, leading by numbers that nobody’s ever seen before."

“We want delays, obviously I’m running for election,” he said, adding he’d need to be on the campaign trail rather than in courtrooms.
