During a recent 60 Minutes interview, Vice President Kamala Harris claimed that she owns a Glock pistol, despite her long-standing advocacy for gun control measures that could ban or heavily restrict ownership of such firearms.

“I have a Glock and I’ve had it for quite some time,” Harris said during the interview. “My background is in law enforcement, so there you go.” When asked if she had ever fired the gun, Harris laughed and claimed, “Yes, of course I have, at a shooting range.”

As a former district attorney, Harris was an advocate for Proposition H in San Francisco, a measure that would have imposed a total handgun ban in the city. She has also consistently backed efforts to reinstate the 1994 federal “assault weapons” ban and supported bans on "high-capacity" magazines. Magazines of the sort are those that hold more than 10 rounds, which are commonly used in Glock pistols.

In California, possessing a standard Glock magazine with more than 10 rounds is a misdemeanor. If Harris owns a standard magazine for her Glock, it would be a violation of state law according to the California Penal Code, the Daily Caller reported. Additionally, a report by The Reloaded pointed out that standard Glock models are considered “unsafe” under California law because they do not include a loaded chamber indicator or magazine disconnect.

Harris has an extensive political history of anti-gun proposals. While running for president in 2020, she supported a mandatory gun buyback program for "assault weapons" and universal background checks.

However, during the 2024 election cycle, Harris has attempted to take steps to soften her image on gun rights, recently trying to claim in an interview that she and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, are “not taking anybody’s guns away” and asserting her support for the Second Amendment.
