"It’s of tremendous concern and I find it abhorrent," said Rep. Jeff Van Drew.
Vice President Kamala Harris' 24-year-old stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff, used her Instagram account to promote a campaign for the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund to support "urgent relief for Gaza's children" but made no mention of innocent children murdered by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7. It has raised $7.8 million thus far.
Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ), a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, told the New York Post that Hamas would almost certainly be able to seize any money that comes into Gaza, even if it is earmarked for humanitarian purposes.
"It’s of tremendous concern and I find it abhorrent,” he said. “To be honest with you, I am kind of stunned by it. It’s disturbing to the maximum degree.”
The fundraiser has since been removed from Emhoff's Instagram page, which has 315K followers. The report notes that it is unclear if she personally donated any money to the cause.
Emhoff has been modeling with IMG models since they signed her just weeks after the inauguration of Joe Biden in January 2021. At the time, IMG president Ivan Bart noted that he first met Emhoff during a 2020 fundraiser for Harris' campaign in the presidential primaries.
On Wednesday, Vice President Harris announced in a video on X, that the Biden administration was establishing "the country's first National Strategy to Counter Islamophobia," to "combat a surge of hate in America."
During the video, she noted that President Biden previously created a National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism earlier in 2023, but did not give any details as to how it was being implemented as antisemitic attacks continue to rise since the terrorist attack on Israel.
She instead focused on the alleged Islamophobia that has resulted from the attack. "For years, Muslims in America and those perceived to be Muslim have endured a disproportionate number of hate-fueled attacks. As a result of the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, we have seen an uptick in anti-Palestinian, anti-Arab, antisemitic, and Islamophobic incidents across America, including the brutal attack of a Palestinian-American woman, who is Muslim, and the killing of her 6-year-old son," she said.
Since the Oct. 7 attack, there have been massive gatherings of pro-Hamas protests happening across the United States, and several instances of antisemitic threats and instances on college campuses and the streets of American cities.
