Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said on Monday that the Keystone XL crude pipeline could be built by the first quarter of 2022 if the Biden administration so choses.
"We could turn this around in less than a year," Kenney said.
Crude prices have recently hit all-time highs, with President Joe Biden announcing Tuesday that the US will ban imports of Russian oil.
"If President Biden had not vetoed (Keystone XL), it would be done later this year. 840,000 barrels of democratic energy that could've displaced the 600,000 barrels of Russian conflict oil that is filled with the blood of Ukrainians," he said.
Kenney said that his province will be producing and exporting record volumes of oil in 2021, with the province being able to boost foreign shipments by 10 percent by using already-existing pipelines and crude-by-rail facilities.
The XL project was kiboshed by President Barack Obama, before being revived by President Donald Trump during his time in office. President Joe Biden would then cancel it once again, upon entering office.
