A coffee shop in Lexington, Kentucky, had its food serving permit revoked after it defied government orders to close indoor dining Tuesday, WKYT reports.
The Brewed coffee shop reportedly refused to close its indoor dining area after a warning from the health department to do so. The establishment had its food permit revoked, meaning they can no longer serve food, according to WKYT.
"Customers were steadily in and out while our crew was there Tuesday afternoon and evening," WKYT says.
The owner reportedly propped open the shops garage door while serving customers in an attempt to operate legally as restaurants are doing within tents under the guidelines.
Brewed's owner, Andrew Cooperrider, told WKYT that he refused the enforcement notice sent by the Lexington Fayette County Health Department to close all indoor dining.
"I think it’s what do you have to lose, I think that’s where a lot of businesses are. What do you have to lose, what are they going to take away, your business? They already are," Cooperrider told the outlet.
"When those are my options, I lose my business or I lose my business, I’m going to choose the one that has the most likely outcome of not losing my business and that’s to stay open and resist where I have at least the financials coming in to pay for it," he continued.
Cooperrider said he lost another restaurant business of his in Wilmore during the first shutdown.
