The parents of Lexington, Kentucky college student Bella Willingham are demanding answers after she was found unresponsive in her dorm room last November with serious wounds.

While she has since recovered, neither law enforcement nor officials at Asbury University have yet been able to determine what caused her injuries.

According to LEX18, the incident took place on November 27.

"At 11 that night, we get a call from the resident director of her dorm," Mr. Willingham told the outlet, "and she tells us that Bella is in an ambulance on her way to the emergency room, that she had been found unresponsive on the floor of her room by her roommate."

Bella's parents were informed by paramedics that her breathing had stopped for over twenty minutes, and that she had suffered numerous cuts, bruises, and gashes all over her body. Her acrylic nails had also been ripped off.

Law enforcement originally told the Willinghams that Bella had been injured after falling out of bed, but her father said he did not believe that.

"There's no way these could've been caused by anything other than someone doing something to her," he said.

Mr. Willingham quickly directed his ire towards Asbury, his alma mater and the school where he'd met his wife, demanding that they provide answers.

"As a parent, I want to know if there's a possibility of someone coming into the school or campus being potentially dangerous," he told LEX18, slamming officials for only issuing a vague statement following the incident.

“I contacted them and said this is not okay," he said. "You have to give a detail so if someone knows something, they'll come forward."

Asbury has since reiterated that it is working with authorities, and cannot comment further as the investigation is ongoing.
