Maryam Monsef, MP for Peterborough-Kawatha and Minister for Gender Equality, has lost a lot of popularity after having referred to the Taliban terrorists who have recently taken over Afghanistan as "our bothers" during a press conference.

According to iPolitics Canada, a new survey conducted on Sept. 1 2021 indicated that Monsef is now trailing her Conservative rival by a full thirteen points.

Michelle Ferreri of the Conservative party came in in the survey at a full 40 percent of the vote, with Monsef dismally behind at only 27 percent. Even the not-strongly-favoured NDP candidate Joy Lachica got 19 percent in his new poll. Chante White of the Green Party came in at nine percent, and Paul Lawton at four percent. The remaining percent chose "other."

The poll's question was, "If the federal election were held today, which party would you vote for?"

Some 291 adults in Canada were polled for this survey, which is considered to have a margin of error of plus or minus 5.7 percent 95 percent of the time.

Monsef, herself a member of a family that are refugees from the same Afghanistan, commented when asked about her previous statement, "Let me be very clear; we do not support the Taliban. We are horrified that the hard-won gains of the past 20 years are at stake."

Prime Minister Trudeau had previously stated that Monsef was simply "expressing herself" when she made the previous statement.
