The Trudeau Liberals have suspended the sale of decommissioned RCMP vehicles "on an interim basis," nine months after Canada's deadliest mass shooting, which involved one of the said vehicles.

Minister of Public Safety Bill Blair announced the ban on social media Friday morning, saying: "We are suspending the sale of decommissioned RCMP vehicles on an interim basis to ensure that this process remains appropriate and robust."

The statement reads that "the RCMP has a resale process for vehicles it no longer needs that ensures they cannot easily be misused for criminal purposes. We are suspending the sale of decommissioned RCMP vehicles on an interim basis to ensure that this process remains appropriate and robust."

The moratorium will provide the Trudeau Liberals and the RCMP time to examine "the policies that are currently in place and work towards long-term solutions that further ensures these vehicles are not improperly outfitted or otherwised misused."

The moratorium comes nine months after Canada's deadliest mass shooting, in which a Nova Scotia man used a decommissioned RCMP vehicle and uniform during a 13-hour killing spree that saw 22 dead, including RCMP Const. Heidi Stevenson.
