The unnamed woman said she viewed local law enforcement with distrust and insisted she was afraid to let law enforcement know she was friends with people of color.
“I work at one of Maine’s biggest processing plants in accounting,” she began. “I need you to understand that businesses in Maine do not have local people to do these jobs. We do not—not seasonal work. My company has paid hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years in order to get these people in Maine to do the work they are legally allowed to do.”
The woman said she viewed local law enforcement with distrust and insisted she was afraid to let law enforcement know she was friends with people of color.
“I can no longer trust the community police officers if I am to say that I have a friend of color that might tip off ICE and end up at their door,” she said. “You need to do the right thing if you can call yourself Americans,” she continued before turning to her own family history.
"My family came here from Canada from Germany not too long ago,” she said. “If we continue this fear, if we continue this racism, we will die out. The population of white people is going to die out. No one’s gonna move here.”
Her statements come as the White House continues its ramped-up ICE operations in the northern state, which began at the start of the year, targeting what it called “the worst of the worst” in a mission dubbed “Operation Catch of the Day.”
“Governor Mills and her fellow sanctuary politicians in Maine have made it abundantly clear that they would rather stand with criminal illegal aliens than protect law-abiding American citizens,” said former Assistant Secretary to DHS Tricia McLaughlin earlier this year. “We have launched Operation Catch of the Day to target the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens in the state. On the first day of operations, we arrested illegal aliens charged and convicted of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and endangering the welfare of a child. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, we are no longer allowing criminal illegal aliens to terrorize American citizens.”
