"Make up your damn mind on protocols," commented Mayfield on Friday, after he and other players have been benched due to having tested positive. Upcoming games are not to be rescheduled, however, despite the obvious outbreak.

The rules have recently been tightened once again on Thursday, ostensibly because of "the advent of the Omicron variant." These new directives now prohibit players and staff eating face-to-face, all meetings now must be virtual or conducted out of doors, and visitors will once again not be allowed on road trips.

"Actually caring about player safety would mean delaying the game with this continuing at the rate it is, but to say you won’t test vaccinated players if they don’t have symptoms, then to pull this randomly. Doesn’t make any sense to me," continued Mayfield, according to TMZ.

The NFL, in turn, responded, claiming that their new rules are based on scientific data, and that they are indeed putting their players and other staff's health before any other consideration.

They didn't specifically respond as to why games weren't postponed in light of the recent outbreak. Mayfield, however, claims that the games are continuing as scheduled for monetary reasons.
