A man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the "random" stabbing death of 15-year-old Micheal Garr in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania last year.

Marson Weh, 24, is currently serving time in Ohio for an unrelated crime, but will be extradited to Pennsylvania to face the new charges.

According to NBC10, Garr was killed on April 21, 2023 and Weh was first identified as a suspect 11 days later after being spotted walking out of a home in Clifton Heights wearing the same clothing as the man seen on security footage the night of the murder.

He was taken into custody, but refused to cooperate and was subsequently extradited to Ohio, where he pleaded guilty to charges of assault and vehicle theft in another case and was sentenced to nine-and-a-half years in prison.

During their investigation, police in Pennsylvania recovered evidence from the aforementioned home that linked Weh to the stabbing and carjacking of a pregnant woman and her child just two months before Garr's murder. It was only in December when DNA evidence tied him to the murder that he was formally charged.

The incident took place on the 200 block of Bridge Street around 9:45 pm as Garr was making his way home from a friend's house. Nearly a year on, no motive has been uncovered for his death.

As ABC6 reports, District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said Garr was simply "a juvenile who was doing nothing more than any juvenile should be able to do anywhere in America: just walking down the street in his own neighborhood."

"He was stabbed and killed at random," Stollsteimer lamented, calling it "one of the most heinous crimes I've seen in my time as district attorney."

The DA emphasized the importance of gathering as much evidence as possible, explaining that authorities "only get one chance to charge somebody with first-degree murder."

As CBS News reports, the months since his death, Garr's family has announced plans to set up a nonprofit called "Dream Beyond the Bench" to fund a scholarship in his name for students hoping to study sports-related subjects. It is expected to launch in 2025.
