A man barricaded himself inside a Mississauga home on Thursday morning, CP24 reports.

Police arrived at the scene by Lundene Drive and Cramer Street shortly before 7:00 am after receiving a call from the family who lives in the house. They reportedly managed to escape before they could be barricaded inside.

The man who break in has reportedly threatened to harm himself with a knife, but nobody else appears to have been injured or threatened so far. It is unclear if the knife constitutes the weapon he's carrying.

A negotiator has arrived at the scene and the situation is under control, police say.

There is a large number of policemen present to deal with the situation.

Police are asking local residents to avoid the area.
