The Secret Service shot and killed a man in his 20s on Sunday after that man broke through the secure perimeter of President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida. The man appeared to carry a shotgun and a can of fuel.

The "unauthorized entry" occurred around 1:30 am when the man was spotted near the north gate of the property. Secret Service agents and a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office confronted the man and shot him, at which point he was pronounced dead.

The Secret Service released a statement on the matter, saying "On February 22, around 1:30 a.m., a male in his early 20s was shot by U.S.

Ryan Routh attempted to shoot Trump at his Florida golf course in September 2024 and was hindered from doing so by Secret Service. He was arrested, tried sentenced to life in prison plus 84 months. A previous assassination attempt on Trump came in July 2024 in Butler, PA.

In that instance, Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire from a rooftop into a crowd of Trump supporters gathered to hear Trump give a campaign speech. Trump was injured, fire man Corey Comperatore was killed, and Crooks was shot to death at the scene.
