'MARTIAL LAW': Tucker Carlson slams 'dictator' Justin Trudeau for using Emergencies Act to target freedom protesters

"This is a defining moment in the history of Canada, in the history of the English-speaking West. The Emergencies Act is martial law. It has never been invoked in the history of that country."

Fox News host Tucker Carlson called out Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday for invoking the Emergencies Act for the first time in Canada's history to target Freedom Convoy protesters who have been peacefully protesting COVID mandates in Ottawa for the past three weeks.

Carlson explained that since Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act, Canadians are now under martial law.

"When thousands of blue-collar workers showed up in Ottawa several weeks ago to protest the tyranny being imposed against them, the Prime Minister of Canada refused to meet with them or to speak to them. Instead, he fled the city. And then from his bunker, he called the truckers Nazis. When they still didn't leave the city, Justin Trudeau suspended democracy and declared Canada a dictatorship," Carlson said.

"Let's be clear. This is a defining moment in the history of Canada, in the history of the English-speaking West. The Emergencies Act is martial law. It has never been invoked in the history of that country," Carlson explained. "Now by law, the Emergencies Act is allowed only in emergencies in 'urgent and critical situations that seriously endanger the lives health or safety of Canadians.'"

However, the Fox News host explained that what's happening on the ground in Ottawa does not qualify Canada to be placed under a state of emergency. Carlson aired footage of the protest in Ottawa which included children playing in bouncy houses, hot food and drinks being served to citizens in frigid weather, and individuals participating in dance parties while Canadian flags wave proudly for miles.

Among those peaceful protesters was one man from the Sikh community who said that it doesn't matter what background the protesters are from, their race, religion, or creed, Canadians are standing alongside truckers "in the fight for freedom."

"So again, all of these people can now be arrested on sight simply because of where they're standing. But being arrested is the least of their problems. An arrest suggests bail, you can get out of jail. You can't get out of the country Justin Trudeau has just made," Carlson explained.

"Under Martial Law, Trudeau now has the power to force banks to seize their bank accounts and insurance companies to cancel their insurance. That means they can't actually live in Canada anymore. They are non-persons. They're enemies of the state, and they will be crushed," Carlson said.

"It isn't an overstatement to compare what is happening in Canada right now to what happens in a Stalinist dictatorship. In the Eastern Bloc, they used to talk about solidarity. In Canada, they talk about diversity, but the repression is similar," the Fox News host said Monday night, slamming PM Justin Trudeau.
