The former lawyer of porn star Stormy Daniels has said that he will testify against his former client in the falsified documents case brought against President Donald Trump by NYC District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

“I’d be more than happy to testify, I don’t know that I will be called to testify, but I have been in touch with Trump’s defense for the better part of year,” Michael Avenatti told the New York Post in an interview from jail.

Avenatti publicly called for the indictment of Trump back in 2018 and was one of the former president's most motivated critics.

“There’s no question [the trial] is politically motivated because they’re concerned that he may be reelected,” Avenatti told the outlet.

He added, “I’m really bothered by the fact that Trump, in my view, has been targeted. Four cases is just over the top and I think there’s a significant chance that this is going to all backfire and is going to propel him to the White House."

During 2018 when he represented Daniels, he became much larger on the political scene because of his role. He became widely known as someone who could easily break into the political sphere. Then in November 2018 he went to jail for a domestic violence charge.

He pled guilty to charges of stealing $300,000 from Daniels in book advances in June 2022 and was convicted of extorting Nike in 2020 out of $25 million. He also told the Post that he expects Daniels to commit perjury if she takes the stand.

“Stormy Daniels is going to say whatever she believes is going to assist Stormy Daniels and putting more money in her pocket,” Avenatti told the outlet. “If Stormy Daniels lips are moving, she’s lying for money.”

He said she would be a poor witness in the trial, “I don’t know how you can possibly put someone who makes those claims on the witness stand and use them as a star witness in a case against a former president United States who’s running for president. That is just absolutely ludicrous to me.”

Daniels responded to the claims made by Avenatti and him taking the stand in trial, “I was about to say that I also wish I’d never met him but I’m actually glad because I’m the one that helped convict him so he couldn’t steal from even more unsuspecting clients."

The ongoing trial is expected to take several weeks. Trump is not allowed to skip out on any day of the trial without receiving permission first. this may result in his missing his youngest son Barron's high school graduation.
