"Former first lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration."
In a statement to the Associated Press, Obama's office said, “Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former first lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration.
The office did not provide a reason for skipping the inauguration, but Michelle Obama has not been much of a fan of Trump since he ran in the 2016 election. Former presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton will be in attendance with their wives.
The only presidential spouse absent at the funeral last week was Michelle Obama where her husband was seen having a conversation with Trump as they both attended. The inauguration of Trump will be accompanied by a performance of America the Beautiful by Carrie Underwood. Additionally, the Village People will be performing one of Trump's favorites, the YMCA, at Turning Point USA's Inaugural-Eve Ball in Washington DC.
Both former President Barack Obama as well as Michelle Obama were in attendance at Trump's 2017 inauguration when the presidency was handed off to Trump and they helped campaign for Harris during the months leading up to the election.
Both Donald Trump as well as Melania skipped Biden's 2021 inauguration at the time, when there were claims that Biden had not rightfully won the presidency. As Trump has been preparing to enter office this week, his Cabinet picks have been starting hearings in the Senate on Tuesday and more are expected throughout the week.
